Tulips for You

Today I'd like to share this lovely image from Altenew

These 'Cartoon Tulips' are actually available in their Freebie section!

The complete layering stamp and die set can be purchased here.

But for me, I enjoy Copic coloring and not layer stamping so I very much appreciated this beautiful image of tulips to color.   After completing the coloring I used Penny Black Elegant Stitching for the decorative edge. Then I added the darker cardstock mat that coordinated with the coral flower.

On the card base I added the peach patterned mat, then secured colored image at an angle on the card base.  I added the stamped sentiment near the top right and then finished the design with the yellow organza ribbon and bow at the top fold.

Anyone Can Be Cool

Today I'm sending out special Happy Birthday wishes to one of my special girlfriends who has been through many of life's situations with me since my early working career.

The image of the stacked cups reminded me of how life sometimes gives us wobbly situations and yet how strong friendships can hold us all together.

After printing the image I used Copic markers for the coloring.  Then I selected the floral background paper and used Gina Marie Designs Label Three for the decorative edges.

With the way the image ended (incomplete saucer), I cut across the image and mat. I added the alternate strip of lavender cardstock and the pink ribbon to give the image a table top look.   Then all the layers were secured to the navy card base.

I stamped the sentiment from My Favorite Things, Friends Like Us and die cut it with the same Gina Marie set. I added a layer of foam behind the sentiment and secured it to the card front to complete the design.

Hopefully the card made it through the mail to my girlfriend in time for her special day today!

Happy Birthday Rhonda!

Hey Grandpa!

Today I wanted to share a special request card I made for a friend's 'healthy' 94 year old Grandpa.  He lives quite far away from his family and they wanted to send a card full of love and fun memories.

When I asked what memories they loved to share with him, she was quick to answer they all loved to play golf!  Immediately I knew the Art Impressions Gordon Golfer would be the perfect 'Just for You' card for this family.

I stamped the image and sentiment separately and used my Copic markers for the coloring.  The Pink and Main Stitched Rectangle dies were perfect for the edges and for the olive mattings.

For the card base, I used a deep peach cardstock mat on the 5" x 7" card base and added a vertical 1/4" strip of dark rust on the left edge.   Then I secured the image, sentiments and mats as shown.    I finished the card with an olive twine wrapped at the folded several times and a loopy bow at the top.

Your Favorite Shoes

This past weekend we celebrated one of our best friends birthday.

Our friend has a very unique career - a lost art these days as a shoe repairman or a 'Cobbler'.  He started watching his Grandfather in the shoe shop at a very young age.  At 10 he began shining shoes and at 14 his career of repairing shoes started.   After school and weekends until the end of high school you could always find him following in his Grandfather's footsteps.  And today, as he just turned 67 he's still enjoying this trade and the satisfaction it brings to make his customers happy with repairing their 'Favorite Shoes'.

Finding an image to depict our friend and his craft wasn't easy but this one is pretty close.  Plus the sentiment is perfect for his birthday!

We are extremely blessed with the friendship we share with this guy and his lovely bride.  What a treasure they both are!

I Cherish Our Friendship

Probably one of the easiest challenges given is 'Use Your Scraps' Challenge.  To be honest, the longer I craft, the less scraps I keep.  Not that I'm wasteful,  I just don't have a lot of storage space left and that space is valuable real estate!

A lot of my scraps I use to die cut or punch various size tags.  The are usable on my cards and I have quite a variety of sizes and designs.  When a recent Weekend Scrap Challenge came out, I had just received a new larger sized die .  It was Matty's Crafting Joy,  Stitched Slot Pocket Die  and gives you different stitched slots to add embellishments, tags or just about anything.

For this challenge, I added the tag to the front of two  card bases and used stamps from the  Sweet 'N Sassy, Timeless Hymns stamp set.

I selected 6 different patterned papers and a couple of solids that coordinated well together.  Then I cut several tag dies of each of the pieces and stamped several of the sentiments from this lovely set from Sweet 'n Sassy.

Then I sorted them into each card base, tucking them gently in the slots and adding a special message inside to make this a very special gift card.

Celebrating With You Today

With Mother's Day approaching quickly, the Polkadoodles Challenge this week is all about celebrating those special ladies!

For my Design Team project, I selected Love Bird Rose Flower to make this celebration card.

After sizing the image to just under 3", I printed the image and then colored  her with Copic markers.   I used the Gina Marie Designs X-Stitched Oval die on the completed image.

For the background, I used Whimsy Stamps Checkerboard Background die with the deep red cardstock.  I also cut a piece of yellow cardstock about 1/4" larger than the checkerboard piece.

I used a standard A2 card base and secured the layers as shown.  I added the sentiment across the bottom of the card front and the white organza ribbon and bow at the fold to complete the card design.

This is my final posting as a Polkadoodles Design Team member as I have decided to step down.  It has been a great experience working with such talented card makers and using the Polkadoodle images.  They are some of my absolute favorites.

Weekend Sketch Challenge

Most card makers enjoy following a sketch for their layout, especially if they are stuck and searching for a different design.  I'm the odd one - as a sketch is truly a challenge for me, my least favorite thing to do.

Sometimes being supportive on a card swap site though is important too, so here's my completed sketch card from the weekend challenge.

Here's the sketch we were given to follow ~

I started by selecting the flower image I wanted to use.  The single rose is part of the Creative Worship Stamps by Sweet 'N Sassy, Roses for You  set.  I colored it with Copic markers and used the coordinating rose die.

From there I selected coordinating papers to match the rose and then used Gina Marie Designs Fish Tail Banner to cut the tag designs. The sentiment is from Taylored Expressions, Sentiment Strips ~ Sympathy Set.

After securing each layer as shown, I added the white organza ribbon at the fold to complete the design.

He Makes All Things Beautiful

Raise your hand if you aren't surprised today is MAY FIRST!  Where is 2024 going?  It's flying by so very fast!!!

I'm posting today with the Creative Team for Morgan's ArtWorld Blogspot for Challenge 76 and we hope that you will be joining us this month.

I've selected her Garden 14  digital package for my project card.  This package actually comes with three images.  They aren't named but I'd call this one a 'wren'. The entire set is shown at the bottom of this blog under Products.

I reversed the image and then sized it to about 5" square.  After printing, I used Copic markers for the coloring.  Then I  made a .png file from the image and added the digital background layer.  Once I had everything where I wanted it, I printed it again and touched up the coloring shades.

I used the Stampin' Up Subtle Dynamic Embossing Folder to add a little bit of texture to the image, then die cut it and the rust colored mat with the Carnation Crafts Pretty Shabby Square Labels die to get the decorative edge.

I used a 'flowers & stems' miscellaneous die set and coordinating card stock to make a few leafy pieces to go under the sentiment from my stash.  After securing those pieces, I added the organza ribbon at the fold to complete the card design.

Be sure to visit Morgan’s ArtWorld

for more images and to see the other Design Team cards. We’d love for you to join us in the monthly challenge.

Fairy Magic Birthday Wishes

Today I'm sharing a birthday card I made Friday for my Physical Therapist's birthday.

For this one, I've used All Dressed Up Digital Stamp, Fairy Magic.

After sizing the image to about 3" tall, I printed her on 110# Neenah card stock and then colored her with Copic markers.  I used shades that coordinated with the background paper from Crafters Consortium.

Next, after completing the coloring, I used the Gina Marie Designs Pierced Nested Label Die for the decorative edge.  For the 'birthday wishes' die cut sentiment, I used coordinating red and yellow cardstock.

The card base is a 6" square with a top fold.  I secured the background paper then added the image and the die cut sentiments as shown to complete the design.
